If you haven't been following my on-going body image drama that's because there hasn't been any. I'm average and I have no delusions about that. My body is what it is and it's nothing noteworthy — small hips, small chest, small butt. But a little over a year ago, I crossed 100lbs on the scale and I didn't like that one bit. Laugh if you must, but I'm only 5' tall, small framed, and I know 100 is heavy on me. I felt heavy. I also noticed the distinct lack of tone to my body. I finally got motivated.

I improved my diet a little and I started exercising almost daily. I didn't do anything dramatic, but I guess sticking with it upped my metabolism and over time it's paid off nicely. So here I am a year later, fairly toned and at my goal weight of 92lbs. I didn't just hit it today — I've been fluctuating around it for about 3 months. But I'm really there now. I just weighed myself (with jeans on) and was 91.8. I'm pleased.

Cool! Don't base yourself on weight though. I did that one time and it drove me crazy.

Don't worry, it wasn't just about weight. I set that goal just because I'd been there before for a while and knew I looked and felt good at it. Mostly it was about pulling myself back from having slacked for too long.

Ahh, I've noticed the same with myself. I'm about your height, and for the last couple years have been feeling heavier at 115-118 (I was under 100 in high school). Been focusing on eating healthier, and I'm back down to a more comfortable 112 or so.

I should probably exercise more than I do and get in the habit now, as metabolism slows with age! Blah.

Yay for you reaching your goal!

Thank you and congratulations yourself on getting back to your comfortable weight!

Yeah that metabolism thing is what gets you and you don't realize it because it happens so slowly. I used to never have to think about what I ate or exercise. And if I ever gained a couple pounds, I could just eat less for a few days and drop it again. Not so anymore.

You're right about the metabolism thing. I run pretty regularly and chuck a few weights about, eat like a horse but stay pretty skinny. Isn't it something to do with muscle burning off more calories than fat? Go for a run, then eat the chocolate cake (which is my plan for later!)

Ick. Running. I applaud you. I have no endurance — smoking is still my demon and I've really got to get up the courage to face it soon. But yeah, there's something about building up muscle that helps burn calories faster, especially in women, as I recall. I remember reading something about that. So go enjoy your chocolate cake! :D

I used to lift weights and I still have my weight bench and everything. I keep thinking I should get back into that. I loved feeling stronger when I had built up some muscle. It might also have something to do with being small — short person complex ;)

Course, my knees are fucked... but still, I feel like crap if I don't head out and pound the pavements for a while. And the chocolate cake was fabulous :-p
Get those weights lifted girlie -> Sarah Connor muscles! Heh.

Congratulations! I'm a big guy and I try to work out every day but it's hard maintaining that. I lost 15 pounds end of last year but a lot of them are back, partially because of stress at work and partially because I haven't even had time to work out lately. Glad people are sticking to it.

Thank you. For the past 2 months, I haven't been exercising every day (or almost every day) like I was all last year. But I'm still doing it 4-5 days a week. I want to get back into the habit of 5-7 days a week, though. it's not that I think I *need* to do it every day, but when I was, it became such a part of my daily routine that I felt a void if I didn't. And that helped me keep it up. I worry now that if it's not an every day thing, it'll be too easy to forget and not miss it.

Hey congrats to you too for losing 15lbs. Even if you gained some back, that was still an accomplishment and you can do it again when you find your motivation.

What the hell are you grumbling about? Didn't you just lose substantial weight?

I did.

But I wanna finish losing all the weight now! *whines*

Ok, sorry, I'm just in a mood. Congrats on getting down to where you want to. Weight loss isn't a lot of fun, but it's nice losing it once it's gone.

Congratulations at reaching your goal! It feels great doesn't it.

You've hit on the main factor in gaining and maintaining fitness levels, consistency. Sticking with it is probably the most important part of a exercise routine. It's not necessary to bust your ass everyday but it is important to get out there everyday.

Another factor is variation. One to keep you from getting bored so you don't quit and second, your muscles can become accustomed to the same exercises. Mixing up your workouts will help keep your workouts working for you.
