It's really kind of funny to be shoulder to shoulder with people that have loved the character for 20 years when I've only gotten acquainted with her for a little over 1. Couldn't be happier to have been sucked in even if Fox ends such a big part of the fun.
I always worry when the the fandoms slacken off... people fall out of touch, the projects get less prolific... but you know what happened just last month? A girl from my VERY FIRST FANDOM from when I was 8 messaged me out of the blue cause she found my youtube ID was so close in name to the ID I'd used on the fan forum when I was 13 and she just had to know if it was me. She felt bad we'd fallen out of touch, and we went back to squeeling about my first Strong Lead Female character of adoration, as well as all the other characters we'd glommed onto since.
I now proudly let Sarah Connor rent an apartment down pituitary lane with Sophie Bojakshiya, Bastila Shan, Bianca Sherer, and even my 1st love Katran of Riven.
the_narration is right... none of us are going to be rid of each other easily. Wouldn't want it any other way. :)
I think it's awesome that TSCC has created in a new generation of Sarah fans :)
Being my first fandom, I've never been through this before. I'm sure it'll shrink a lot in the coming weeks and months, but based on what I see around LJ, when people love a set of characters, the fandom lives on in smaller form.
And I definitely don't want to get rid of you guys!
I can testify to that: The Magnificent Seven has been my favorite fandom for years, though I became really active about three years ago. It was canceled after it's first season, but a major fan campaign brought it back for a second one. The producers assembled a soundtrack as a thank you for the fans - it was never available in stores, and the woman organizing the revival effort got a cameo in the first episode of the second season.
That was ten years ago. We still squee over the boys, and have LJs dedicated to them, hold passionate discussions (we're holding a rewatch now, and we're down to the last episode), create graphics and fics (there's a yearly fanfic contest, the judges are currently going over nominations), and there's been an increase in vids too.
What's best, with the DVDs that were issued for the first time recently, we're getting a lot of new fans, because of the huge number of AUs and crossovers in the Mag7 fandom. Most of these people have discovered the show through fanfiction, and they're enjoying themselves comparing what they've read to what they can now see on screen.
So, even though our show has been off the air for ten years, the fandom is still going strong. I can only hope it will be the same for the TSCC fandom. [Of course, it would be even better to have a third season, and fourth and so on - I've grown to love this show - AND the Sarah arc! - almost as much as the boys, who were lead by Michael Biehn. :) ]
Well that's really cool that that Magnificent 7 fandom is still going after all these years. All I really care about in the long run is that I have my Sarah buddies within reach. If Sarah Connor can live on in fandom, I'm good :)
