"This is it. There's nothing else behind the curtain. This is what I do, it's all I do."
— Sarah to Ellison in Mr Ferguson is Ill Today.

Sarah is the wizard and she's trying desperately to get Dorothy (John) home again (a normal life).

I've always assumed future!John was the man behind the curtain because he's pulling the strings from the future. But that line from Mr Ferguson has been stuck in my mind ever since that episode. With all the Wizard of Oz references, that couldn't possibly just be a throw-away line. It has meaning. And before that, in Goodbye to All That, we had Sarah reading the Wizard of Oz and (I think) coming to the realization that John is essentially Dorothy. Until the wicked witch is dead — until his fate is changed, he can never truly be free to live his life.

So even while future!John is the one sending back missions (messages to his mom from the future), it's Sarah who's in the position to actually change things. She's the one who has the power to alter the future and everything she does either gets John a step closer to his fate or a step closer to "home".

Sounds very believable! Especially in this Sarah Connor series. (check the word witch)

Posted at 5 am. Is this morning for you Roxy? Or late night? Morning coffee for me. Trying to wake up for work.

Typos abound at 5am (which is late night for me — I'm east coast). I think I live in the wrong time zone or something.

So are you the same Gary who posts as Gary on the official blog? If so, I saw that note you wrote to me on there yesterday. Also, I applaud your efforts to battle the dark side ;)

I've never read the Wizard of Oz so I don't know how much it differs from the film. But based on the movie, the one problem with Sarah being the wizard is that it would also kind of imply that she's ineffective — that she'll fail. That plays more into the idea that John's fate is sealed and only he has the power to change it himself.

John obviously does share that power with Sarah because he works along side her to stop Skynet. But I don't like the idea that Sarah can't save John from his fate. I hold strong with the idea that future's not set and it could go either way.

Yep, that's me. It's nice they keep that blog going for the fans. Having a little "connection" to them is a lot of fun. Even if only one or two people from the show actually read it.

I too like to think the future is not set, 'no fate' is the basis for the show anyway. And Sarah battles so hard! It can't be in vain.

It sounds like we're in for quite a finale. And the episodes leading up to it also.
