roxybisquaint: (sarah wizard of oz)

"This is it. There's nothing else behind the curtain. This is what I do, it's all I do."
— Sarah to Ellison in Mr Ferguson is Ill Today.

Sarah is the wizard and she's trying desperately to get Dorothy (John) home again (a normal life).

I've always assumed future!John was the man behind the curtain because he's pulling the strings from the future. But that line from Mr Ferguson has been stuck in my mind ever since that episode. With all the Wizard of Oz references, that couldn't possibly just be a throw-away line. It has meaning. And before that, in Goodbye to All That, we had Sarah reading the Wizard of Oz and (I think) coming to the realization that John is essentially Dorothy. Until the wicked witch is dead — until his fate is changed, he can never truly be free to live his life.

So even while future!John is the one sending back missions (messages to his mom from the future), it's Sarah who's in the position to actually change things. She's the one who has the power to alter the future and everything she does either gets John a step closer to his fate or a step closer to "home".

Sounds very believable! Especially in this Sarah Connor series. (check the word witch)

Posted at 5 am. Is this morning for you Roxy? Or late night? Morning coffee for me. Trying to wake up for work.

Typos abound at 5am (which is late night for me — I'm east coast). I think I live in the wrong time zone or something.

So are you the same Gary who posts as Gary on the official blog? If so, I saw that note you wrote to me on there yesterday. Also, I applaud your efforts to battle the dark side ;)

I've never read the Wizard of Oz so I don't know how much it differs from the film. But based on the movie, the one problem with Sarah being the wizard is that it would also kind of imply that she's ineffective — that she'll fail. That plays more into the idea that John's fate is sealed and only he has the power to change it himself.

John obviously does share that power with Sarah because he works along side her to stop Skynet. But I don't like the idea that Sarah can't save John from his fate. I hold strong with the idea that future's not set and it could go either way.

Yep, that's me. It's nice they keep that blog going for the fans. Having a little "connection" to them is a lot of fun. Even if only one or two people from the show actually read it.

I too like to think the future is not set, 'no fate' is the basis for the show anyway. And Sarah battles so hard! It can't be in vain.

It sounds like we're in for quite a finale. And the episodes leading up to it also.

You should be sleeping ;)

Yeah, I think that what you're saying here is really the theme of the show in a nutshell (hence the icon), and it makes sense from a quantum mechanics standpoint as well - John brought HER back from the past to get her past her cancer. SHE is the one who is not supposed to be alive, she is the one who died in 1998 originally - therefore, everything SHE does from this point forward drastically changes John's life.

Though... something occurs to me as I write this... despite the line she gives... the person who actually saved her life, brought them through time, and kills people they can't, is Cameron. Makes me wonder if she's the wizard.

Cameron as the wizard is an interesting possibility, but based on everything we know so far, I'm not ready to follow that idea. Also, not that character on the show has to fit neatly into the Wizard of Oz, but Sarah calling Cameron the Tin Man so early on would seem to set her up as being John's companion in this journey. And I guess I'd label future!John as the Good Witch, while Skynet is the Wicked Witch.

How true, how true Roxy! Sarah can and is trying her damnest to make her own fate to change the future John's outcome. I like this whacky theory!

Yes, garyinla is the Gary that posts on the blog - (Gary, please correct me if I'm totally wrong!:) He's a really nice guy that I spent eight hours in line with at the last Golden Apple SCC signing. And I always applaud his efforts to battle the dark side! :) I do still post on the SCC blog to also do the same, but lately, it's really gotten me pissed off to even go on there, so I don't post as often as I want to.

Gosh, thanks! I'm blushing. That was a fun day at the Golden Apple. Long wait but it was worth it! We had the best seats, didn't we? It was fun to meet everyone hanging out there with us too. I wish they would do another one because we didn't get to meet Lena! I missed the one last January. I really hope to get a chance to meet her.

No problem Gary, it's half the fun meeting fans like you! And I've had some bad experiences meeting some rude folks at events, so when you meet fans who appreciate the show and other fans, it just makes it all the more fun.

Are you going to the Dallas Frightfest con where Lena's appearing or Comic Con (in the hopes that she'll appear!) so you can possibly see her then? I'm trying to make both those events.

I most likely will go to Comic Con this year. TSCC would be the main reason I'd go, assuming they get a third season I'm sure they'll be there again.

This would be my first year going. I better get a ticket. I assume TSCC would be there on Sunday again, if they do go.

Oh my mistake, looks like they were there on Saturday last year. It would probably be best to buy tickets for both Sat and Sun, just in case.
