I'm not at Comic Con

And neither are you or you'd be wandering around the Gaslamp district in search of food, drink and general merriment, not reading my LJ. I can't really complain, though. I got to experience it last time and might go again next year. Of course, if I'd known last year that we'd be doing all this savethescc stuff this year, I think I would've planned my trips a bit differently!
The point of this post wasn't to whine about missing out on Sarah Connor Chronicles fandom fun at Comic Con, though. I wanted to update you guys on everything since I've been kind of slacking with savethescc posts lately. We raised all that money and I don't think I ever posted about how it all worked out. Maybe I did, but I'm too lazy to dig through my posts right now to check.
All totalled, TSCC fans raised $5012. With that money, we got the 3-day mobile billboard run, 850 16"x20" tote bags with double-sided printing, 1000 1.75" buttons and 3000 stickers (1000 of each of the three designs). It's amazing how expensive everything really was once shipping and hotel receiving fees got factored in (the Hyatt really soaks you to accept packages). It got a little tense there for a while, wondering if we'd actually be able to afford everything, but we worked it out.
If you're actually heading off to Comic Con one day this week (or maybe you're there and really really bored and found yourself reading this), the billboard should be all over the place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from about 12 noon to 8pm. Also, Aelysian and some fellow fans are there and they'll be handing out the totes, buttons and stickers to con goers. The best way to keep up with what's happening, is to follow Aelysian on twitter. And if you're planning to be there and can help out, be sure to DM her.
Oh, here's something fun: She discovered a Save Sarah sticker on what looks like the back of a Comic Con location marker sign. If so, it could be one I placed last year (I put them on the backs of several of those signs). Or maybe there are just more fans stickering this year. Either way, it's pretty cool :)

Anyway I got my donation buttons, thank you very much; I should have got you to send just one set, I have no idea what to do with four.

on 2010-07-22 06:43 pm (UTC)Yeah, I have several sets of No Fa Te buttons myself and I'm not sure what to do with mine either. I sent one set to a friend and I'll probably give some away to friends I see at Dragon Con in September.

on 2010-07-22 06:22 pm (UTC)Well if J-Day turns out to be true we know who should organize the resistance LOL!
I sort of disappointed, because on one hand I wanted to see the SaveSCC stuff.
But on the other hand it sort of feels like NBC is whoring Summer out there to the fanboys (Look it's summer glau!) sort of feels like they're making her turn tricks for the show.
also I was sort of hoping to see Game of Thrones there, which while I understand that it's not complete they still showed the unaired Pilot of TSCC before they even started on the series. Why not that?

on 2010-07-22 07:00 pm (UTC)What do you think we do at savethscc, sit around and eat cookies? We work hard, yo! Although siting around eating cookies seems like a really good idea right now.

Comic Con is all about whoring out the talent! It's not really whoring, though. The actors are the faces that fans know - the faces we go to movies and turn on TV to see. They're the faces of performaces we love. So of course we want to see them in person if we can. It's thrilling.

I was wondering about that to. I would've expected there to be a panel about it. I guess the fact that they're just about to start filming in Ireland just made it impossible to have people at Comic Con for it.

If there is a TSCC movie in the works and Lena is on a panel about it next year, I definitely wouldn't miss it.
Dude, I'd be flying over there too. Seriously. I would face my terror of being flung into the air in a metal tube for that.

From what I've read, it's just incredibly bad timing. They're literally just about to start shooting. I think there was a script read through yesterday and everyone's heading to Belfast for filming. There was talk about a trailer showing during the True Blood panel but apparently that's been nixed as well. They're still reshooting scenes from the pilot (one of the actors in a teeny bitty role can't do the rest of the show due to other commitments so they're redoing his scenes and tweaking others) so maybe they just didn't have the time to sort anything out. I would think - if it was a hit and got picked up for further seasons - that the show would be represented next year.

on 2010-07-22 07:55 pm (UTC)F is for flapjacks. That's good enough for me. Oh, flapjacks flapjacks flapjacks starts with F.
Hmm. Cookies definitely make for a better song.

You would? Then I am praying to the gods for a TSCC panel with Lena about a movie next Comic Con, because dude, we would have SO. MUCH. FUN. Also, I would just really really love for there to be a TSCC movie happening next year :)

What if there was a TSCC movie panel *and* a GoT panel? Two Lena panels!! <- (Two exclamation points were required for that thought.)

on 2010-07-22 08:09 pm (UTC)Yeah, but my flapjack was home-made with cherries in it... actually, it sticks your teeth together so damn well you can't sing and eat the stuff...

I would! Too damn right. I'm already being tempted by the talk of a TSCC con... Cat said she'd come with me if you arranged to hold it in a nice, pretty mountainous region so she'd have somewhere to go while we geeked out ;-)

Oh dear lord, have a couple more!! I think I would probably hyperventilate myself to death. Which actually sounds naughtier than it is ;-)
Butty-ing In
on 2010-07-24 02:49 am (UTC)I made a batch with Ghirardelli Semisweet chocolate chips this AM. Cherry chunks would have been *really* good with those. Nom nom nom.
Like "Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia". Do you have that across the pond?
Won't Cat need to be close by to administer smelling salts after you hyperventilate? To keep you from being abducted / experimented on by geeks?

on 2010-07-27 08:03 am (UTC)Also, random little story: met Joss Whedon at Comic Con, told him about the site and gave him all the stickers I had on me. (In my panicked frenzy, it went more like this: "Hey, Joss! I have something for you! There's this site called savethescc.com that's trying to save The Sarah Connor Chronicles and I have stickers! They're fun! You can stick them on things!") So Joss Whedon is now in possession of something you crafted. Which I think is pretty awesome. And he said he supports our cause, which is no news to us, but still awesome, nonetheless.
Also also: did you get hit by that crazy storm? I remember hearing about a tornado warning in New York, and the next day, there was one in Maryland and my cousin in Montgomery lost power until Tuesday because the winds were so strong that they knocked all the power lines down. (Meanwhile, in California, I'm buying sweatpants because it's freezing over there and all I packed were shorts.)

on 2010-07-28 01:07 am (UTC)We did get hit by the crazy storm, but no tornados actually touched down around here and we didn't even lose power. I was actually kind of bummed about no tornados because I really want to see one (I don't actually want it headed towards me or my house, though). I can't believe there are still tens of thousands of people without power closer to DC. That's crazy.
So you had fun at Comic Con? As if I need to ask :P

on 2010-07-28 10:17 pm (UTC)I know what you mean--for all of my nightmares about tornadoes, I'd love to see a real one touch down, just one. Just a small one, though. I'm happy watching the big ones on television, lol.
