Comic Con hotel upgrade!

The discounted hotel rates went into effect today for Comic Con and we managed to claw our way through the online frenzy to get one. Now instead of staying at the Comfort Inn Gaslamp 6 or 7 blocks away, we're booked at the Hilton Bayfront which is right next door to the Convention Center. And the real beauty of it is that the discounted price was $70/night CHEAPER than the Comfort Inn we were going to be staying at. Also, it looks like a pretty sweet hotel.

The man gets all the credit. I forgot all about Comic Con hotels being available today, but he remembered and came home on his lunch hour so we could try to get one. Success :)

Awesome, congrats! I'm glad you were able to find a closer, cheaper place! We're staying at the Best Western Seven Seas five miles away. Hundred bucks a night, BOO-YAH.

$100/night is AWESOME. I'm surprised anywhere was that reasonably priced during Comic Con. The Hilton is $265/night. Not exactly cheap, but we didn't want to have to deal with transportation and we also wanted to be close enough that we could just go back to our room and chill for a bit if the crowds got overwhelming (I keep hearing how unbelievably crowded Comic Con is). So we traded cash for convenience.

We got a deal through sandiegohotels.com. Their actual rates were something like $139 for a couple days and then $156 for the weekend. Which is still not that bad.

Comic-Con is pretty crowded. Our hotel is close to a trolley stop, which is nice, but not walking distance!

Not walking distance, but only $115 for the whole week. Yay! *does the cheapskate dance with Sunil*

I'm glad you got one of the reserved hotels, roxy! (If I wasn't so excited just to be able to go, I would be totally jealous of walking distance hotels.) It sounds like it will be loads of fun.

It looks like we got a preeeeetty sweet deal! We even get free parking.

Although, man, I kind of want to stay in the Wonderful Room or the Spectacular Room.

Also, ha ha, Wikipedia tells me that in the UK, instead of Queen and King they have King and Super King.

Very awesome!

You guys are so way ahead of me. I still have to figure out who I'm going to hitch a ride with let alone where to stay.

Ha. Yeah, you might want to start thinking about that. Although, I bet hotels will have nonstop cancelations between now and early July from people who book early knowing they can back out without a penalty.

Are you going for the whole 4 days?

[identity profile] gothamite66.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)

I wish I could go for the whole 4 days but I think I'll only be there Saturday and Sunday. My birthday is that Saturday so I'll probably celebrate on Friday evening w/ Gjr and Batman then head out after cake and stuff.

If worst comes to worst and I can't find a place to stay I can always pitch a tent on the beach or something. I've camped in stranger places before. ;)

Wow, good for ya that your man got online. My friend and I waited for over two hours trying to book online and never could - the Comic Con hotel reservation system sucks as per usual. Fortunately, my friends had already booked a hotel about eight blocks away yesterday - a bit steep in price, but a hotel room's a hotel room at Comic Con. Plus, we can always cancel later if needed.

Aw that sucks. We were "waiting" in the system for about an hour before we finally got pushed through to the reservation screen and were on hold on the phone too in case we got through that way first. I guess we just got lucky.

Eight blocks away isn't bad at all, though. That's close enough that you probably could walk or at least not have to wait long for a shuttle.

This is gonna be fun :)

No, eight blocks away isn't bad. We were ten blocks away last year and walked most days, especially on Saturday when ya gotta get in line in the wee hours of the morning to get a good seat for whatever panel you're attending.

Let the fun commence! :D
