roxybisquaint: (sarah third season)
[personal profile] roxybisquaint

Emails, letters, postcards... Have we made an impact? Are we getting through to Warner Brothers? Are they hearing the united voice of the fans crying out for more Sarah Connor Chronicles? Maybe, but we think it's time to up our game. We think its time to show Warner Brothers that we mean business:

We don't have a finished design yet, but we'll be working off this basic concept.

I know what you're thinking. I may not know how you think, but I know what you're thinking about right now. A mobile billboard?! That's got to be expensive! Indeed it is, but not very expensive at all if everyone chips in. All we need is $3500 and surely there are enough true TSCC fans to make it happen. You think I'm kidding? Nope. You think I'm crazy? Could be. But what better way to tell Warner Brothers we want more TSCC than to send a mobile billboard to their headquarters?

Will you join us? Details and a PayPal Donation widget can be found at SaveTheSCC.com. You can also contribute to this fund from right here, right now. And by the way, that widget will be available in my profile until we reach our goal.

You and me both. We've got the usual letters, emails and postcards. We've got a petition. We've got stickers going at the grass roots level. We've got press packets coming up. And now a FREAKING BIG billboard in front of WB. That's hope, baby!

I posted this at SCS (http://sarahconnorsociety.com/) too.

Freaking big and right fucking out there. ...I wanna drive the truck. Even though that's a very bad idea because I am a poor driver.

This fandom is going to be the death of me, especially come September, but damn if I'm not happy that we didn't give up. Not giving up.

I think I've become obsessed with watching that donation meter. Also I wanted you to know I loved your icon so much I had to make one for myself :D

Well, I get the Paypal notification emails my savethescc email but watching that sucker is way too fun.

I love that icon and that is exactly what I thought when I first saw it. Oh, Sarah. Jesus loves you too. The lighting in that scene is so awesome.

Hi, 5AM. Hi, rising sun. Sigh. Time to power down.

Mobile Billboard is a good idea. I think you will be able to reach this goal. The blogs will cover this too, its more interesting. I had a suggestion. Is that the final billboard? Maybe there should be a terminator head graphic or arm so people know, or will that get you sued?

on 2009-06-29 05:18 pm (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] roxybisquaint.livejournal.com
Yeah using copyrighted imagery could get us in trouble, so we're using original artwork only on this. That's not the final design, but it'll look similar to that.

Honestly, I think it would be most effective if there was a donation site wherein people actually pledged money for the actual BUDGET of the next season/movie. And then maybe send a birthday card to whoever the relevant executive is with a link to the site when we hit a relevant threshold.

Nah. Considering it takes almost $3million to produce a single episode, we wouldn't even make a dent in one. And then what would we do with the money? Hand it to WB? Refund it to everyone because we'd made our point?

I specified "pledge" for a reason, although I didn't make it very clear what I meant. What I DID mean was that everyone puts their name, email, and the amount of money they're willing to donate. The money only gets donated if the target threshold is reached.

At this point I'm happy with a 4 episode miniseries or DVD movie. If they were to do that, and rely entirely on DVD sales, they'd only get a few dollars in actual profit per DVD, which means literally 12 million people need to buy one for it to turn a profit. If people donated $20 each, the number of drops down to 600,000 people. Which is still unfeasible, BUT I don't think it's necessary for us to pay for the entire budget, merely for enough of a chunk of it to demonstrate seriousness. If someone had attempted this right after the season finale when the most people were excited, I think a reachable target number of fans would have been about 20,000 people. Assume a medium donation of $20 (I spent $80 on the DVD pre-order and iTunes Season, I suspect $20 is reasonable), then we could have gotten a total of $400,000. And seriously, which do you think is more likely to impress WB - A truck driving around or a check for 400,000 dollars? The check represents not only 20,000 devoted fans but loads more people who are likely to be willing to buy the DVD or watch it on Hulu.

Unfortunately I honestly think it's too late even for that. A lot of fans (like me) have already felt like we've put in a crazy amount of effort that amounted to nothing. But if I were to continue the fight, in would only be in a battle I honestly thought had a shot of accomplishing something.

Ah well, I'm sorry you're not excited about this one. I'm way excited. I also think we still have a shot at more TSCC. The DVD doesn't come out until Sept 22, so I'm using that as a marker. If it sales are mediocre then I think our chances may be done. If it sell really well, then WB than all the efforts the fans are putting in could help be a deciding factor for WB to make more.

Some people never give up. Some people always fight.

That's how we got Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars.

I'm so glad I knew nothing of Farscape back then. I think I would've lost my mind. The fans did it for that show and the fans can do it for this show. And by the way, I'm so glad you guys did get Peacekeeper Wars because if I didn't have that to go into when I watched all of Farscape last year, it would've been, um, a lot less fun.

Not only is the bill-board very pretty, but hopefully it'll garner some wider publicity. Plus, it is pretty cool ;-)

Posted by [identity profile] roxybisquaint.livejournal.com
Yes yes yes, publicity would be good. Very good. This will get attention, that's for sure. Seeing a billboard drive past once might not, but having it run a small circuit over and over again for 3 days, well, I think we'll make our point loud and clear ;)

Loud and clear baby! Just flirted $50 over to you all and bought me some stickers too... on Cat's credit card. Heh... I might need to flee the country, what's the weather like over there this time of year?!

Threw a little something in. I'm curious to see if this has an effect. Farscape fans bought newspaper ads, but this is kind of a whole 'nother level.

Yay! We've gotten a third of the way to the goal in less than 30 hours. I realize the donations may slow down in a couple days, but with our target date, we've got until mid-August to reach this goal (sooner the better, though, of course). We're off to an awesome start.

The intention is to time the billboard with the release of the s2 DVD, when we figure we have the best chance of making both a financial impact and a FANS WANT MORE AND WE'RE NOT GOING AWAY impact. I hope it works. I think it will.

plus from what I hear Fox's fall line up is going to get pwnd.

not alot of public support behind it.

Yeah, Fox's fall line-up isn't looking good at all and from what I know, they're not even happy with it. I don't wish any ill will on Dollhouse fans, but I want so badly for Fox's Friday night line-up to CRASH and BURN.

Added $100 this morning. Hopefully the billboard will make an impact on them and "change our fate".

Feels like TSCC withdrawals every week. They had me hooked, that's for sure. I miss all the characters. Especially Sarah and Cam.

Yay Gary! I was worried all the big contributions were done and the donation meter might slow to a trickle. I'm so glad I was wrong about that. Last night, schmacky and I were so antsy for it to hit the halfway point (it was $50 shy) that we both decided to donate again and we split the difference to hit the 50% mark. :D

Hey since you're in LA, I guess you could go see the billboard in action. Schmacky and gothamite both live in LA and plan to get video and pictures of it driving around. I think this is going to be awesome.

Yes, I'd like to go see it if I'm available when it's here. I have some high end photography gear and I'll try to get some good shots of it.

Question: Is it more money to add a graphic with the text? I had a few ideas for basic, illustrated outlines/sihollettes that could go with the text:
-an endo skull
-an endo fist or a human fist with a barcode at the wrist
-group of (3) crouched resistance fighters at one corner and a flying (HK) aircraft at the opposite, upper corner
-side profiles on opposing ends of the billboard of a woman (Sarah) facing down an endo/human face (any gender) with red eyes (both faces would be featureless sihollettes cept the T eyes)

No, it doesn't cost more. The $1250 production charge covers full color printing of both pieces of vinyl (both sides of the billboard). But we do want to stay away from anything that might make people think of Terminator Salvation at a glance. So imagery of an endo or HK or really anything future-war-ish could confuse it. That's the reason we've left the "Terminator" part out of the name, too.

I've contemplated using silhouettes of people, but I really don't think it would come across well. Without the faces, it might as well be Charlie's Angels ;)

Alrighty, I understand.

I don't mean to be rude, it just seems like it is missing something graphically (my wannabe artsy-fartsy self is compelled to offer some ideas). Though, I know that is not the final billboard design.

I think leaving off the word 'Terminator' will deter anyone from thinking 'Terminator Salvation' but a graphic could draw more eyes to read the words on the billboard
