Has anyone else been watching The Unusuals? I really like it a lot. It's fun, it's full of quirky characters and the cast is awesome. The fourth episode just aired tonight, so if you've been missing out, you can catch up at abc.com. I loved the pilot, thought the 2nd episode was just okay, but the 3rd and 4th episodes have been great. A show that can make me actually like Adam Goldberg must be doing something right.

I've also been watching that new show Southland which is way better than I expected. It's heavy drama, but exceedingly well done. The characters don't quite play as stereotypical as they initially seem. Bonus: it has Ben McKenzie.

What's The Unusuals about? I've never heard of it.

I started watching the Unusuals and stopped somewhere in the first episode. It didn't look bad, but there are so many god damn cop shows out there I just didn't feel the need to encourage any more. Half the shows I watch are cop shows and/or detective shows, and I'd like to see more new stuff.

That said... if it is that good, I may give it a shot. Is it necessary to watch the first two episodes to fully appreciate the later ones?

Hmm, Well if the pilot didn't grab you, it's probably not for you. I got sucked into it pretty quickly. I know what you mean about cop shows. I'd have kind of have my fill of them but tried out The Unusuals because it looked interesting. It's definitely not your run-of-the-mill cop show.

Southland is not one I can imagine enjoying long term since it's very much a cop show and such a heavy drama. But so far I've been impressed with how well it's done.

It's a NY cop show, but it's character driven, hip and quirky. Example: one cop is 42 and every male in his family has died at 42, so he's paranoid and wears his vest all the time. His partner was diagnosed with a brain tumor (though he's told no one) and is sort of obsessed with dying. It's light drama with a little humor.

Ah, a character I can relate with, eh? ;-D

Sounds potentially interesting, but I already have a hell of a time keeping up with the shows I already theoretically watch. Plus, any show about NYPD is going to find itself constantly compared in my mind to NYPD Blue. Might check it out, might not, depends on what else I have on my plate.

Why is the first thing I see when looking at this post the Beetlejuice reference and not the zombie icon?

No, they play *more* stereotypically than you expect. I liked the pilot but voted off the second episode. I'm sticking with the Unusuals for as long as it's around.

You really think so? I was expecting the rookie to be some do-gooder, never make a mistake kind of guy and his partner to be the jaded hard-ass all the time. But they didn't take that straight path with either of them. I do find the C. Thomas Howell character really annoying, though. I can't see myself watching a show like that long term, but I'm liking it so far.

The Unusuals, OTOH, is totally awesome.
