TSCC Fan vid: Lost Inside (Sarah)
My video is finished. Finally. What did that take me, like two weeks? Well, I hadn't done any video editing before, so I was learning as I went along. That tends to slow things down. Also, I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to creative projects (in fact it's killing me that after I uploaded this, I noticed one transition spot didn't turn out quite like I thought it had!!!!!! Heh. Oh well).
Special thanks to
schmacky0 for pointing out my sloppy transition work early on and to
sabaceanbabe for doing the full beta, which prompted experiments in graduated slow motion. And I've also learned plenty just from viewing their own vids.
The video is about Sarah (see, you might not know this about me, but I'm kind of a Sarah Connor fan) and the impact of losing her connection to John. It's set to Avril Lavigne's "Nobody's Home". This is my first fan video, but I don't think it'll be my last. I really enjoyed making it.
Watch it on Youtube.
Watch it on Vimeo.
Download it (46mb, 640x360 Quicktime movie).
On a personal level, this video represented everything I have been unable to do since I quit smoking. I haven't been able to stay focused on anything and I've had no creative ability. But Sarah Connor came through for me, as always. Somehow I latched onto this idea and was able to stick with it to completion. It's just a simple fanvid, I know. But for me it was a milestone and I feel like I'm back :)

I really also like the part "She's falling behind" The music and the scene work so perfectly and you so empathize with Sarah. The whole song fits perfectly ans makes you feel the character :)
Sarah is so amazing.

Not a fan of Avril Lavigne, but this vid was very nicely done. Timing John slamming his hands on the table in frustration to the cymbal crash was a nice touch.
(You never use the same screen name twice, do you?)

Maybe you have to be a girl to like Avril. Although by the time I finished this, my husband was humming along to it. I mostly worked with earphones in, but he heard it enough times that it got drummed into his head.
Timing John slamming his hands on the table...
That was what I enjoyed the most about making this. It took a while to settle on the various clips and get them more or less into place. But reworking every shot frame-by-frame to get things timed to the music and the lyrics was a lot of fun.
Oh and sideofcrazy was a fluke. I'm really just Roxy (roxyb, roxybisquaint) and allergygal everywhere... except for all my user names that are unrelated to fandom ;)

Heh. I know how easy it is to get songs stuck in your head, and it's usually not the ones you'd want stuck there. Happens to me all the damn time.
This is probably the least annoying Avril song I've ever heard. It actually doesn't sound like the stuff of hers I was previously familiar with. Maybe her style has matured?

And as for having your choice of Lena expressions to choose from - you captured all the right ones to go perfectly with the music. Sigh...I <3 Lena...I miss SCC!

More TSCC please. More Sarah Connor please.
'I believe you have participated in the miraculous and the terrible and through it all you have maintained a moral and good soul.'
Oh, I love that line too. So much.

I think it would have been a combination of both. Sarah would have gone hard core after Skynet since it would be the only thing she had left. Yet, I would have loved to see Sarah in the quieter moments (if she had one, being on the run again and all) where she could grieve for her loss. Lena woulda kicked ass acting in those scenes.
What sucks the most about loosing SCC is that I have no idea how Josh F. and co would have moved the story forward with everyone in different timelines/alternate realities of the future, etc. He's much smarter than me! ;D It would have been truly awesome to see.

I think so too and I'd really like to see it :(

Yeah, it was a cruel place to leave us. I have mixed feelings about where it was going, though. I really want to know, but I'm also afraid!

You inspire me to get into fan vidding, which I am clueless to begin. Online tuts seem to vary from one another and there are so many programs to choose from as a result.
Also, big kudos to quitting smoking. I wonder if Sarah went through the same. She smokes in T2, but I do not recall a scene of her smoking or a hint of it (broadcast TV doesn't do smoking in shows, right?) --Actually, I'm reading a T2-era book and it is touching on Sarah's struggle to quit smoking and drinking at her son's insistence.

Thank you. In some ways it's been easier than I expected and in other ways much harder. Sarah's a determined chick, though, so I have no doubt that when she decided to quit, she'd have dealt with it better than I have! They touched on her former smoking in SMWWSMS: "I quit smoking years ago. I've got too much excitement in my life." :P

Kudos to quitting! Just remember, we are all Sarah Connor! :D
And as far as I know, Lena quit smoking this past year, so I hope our fav Brit sticks with it too!

You Rock Rox!
The kiddling is troubled by the fact that I actually *like* Avril Lavigne (especially "Wake Me Up"), but let her be puzzled.
I'm glad you've broken out of the recovery funk. It's great to have you back in form.

Thinkin about Sarah smoking after her escape from Pescadero, it seems a little odd, doesn't it, that she would be addicted? Do they really let people who are involuntarily committed for paranoia and violent psychoses play with matches in a mental hospital?
That seems... insane. :P
Re: You Rock Rox!
I had a funk relapse, but considering I had like 4 good days in a row, I feel sure all the bad is just part of the recovery and it is getting better. And really, that's all I needed to know — I can handle the bad when I can beyond it. Making this video helped a lot, I think.
Funny you should mention smoking and Pescadero. When I was in college, I signed up a couple times to be a research test subject at a mental hospital. One of the tests was to check eye movements before and after smoking (you sat in a little dark booth and then followed a bright dot with your eyes and they charted it). Apparently, most psychotics smoke and also have some distinctive eye movement irregularities. So they were trying to determine if cigarettes were a factor in the eye issues. Point being that the psychotic inpatients were allowed to smoke. Of course, that was also back before smoking was kicked to the great outdoors.
Re: You Rock Rox!
Now that I've actually *listened* to some samples of her, and watched "Bad Romance", I'm inclined to agree: the kiddling would freak if I started playing Lady Gaga.
The woman would probably file papers.
I like a strange mix from Patrick Alger to Led Zeppelin, but the techno-synth component is down in the single digit parts-per-million. Rewatching T1 reminded me how much techno irritates me.
There was a lot going on in that Bad Romance video... not sure I got it all.
Not sure I want to.
The kiddling does like Matt Nathanson. :-)
I need to make her a "Best Songs of All Time" CD.

If making videos helps, keep 'em coming!

I took experimental Psych in college too. I was a tachistoscope guinea pig for some grad student. It would have been more enlightening if we'd been given copies of the paper when they finished it.
You should write a journal entry about your experiment, if you know what the results were...
It's a little off the usual topics, but, hey, it's not like there's creative TV to write about.

Great song choice, and the visuals fit the lyrics really well.

And I might be working on another vid already... about Sarah and Derek. It's a bit more ambitious, so when I finally finish it, I'll come-a-calling for your beta expertise.
