I specified "pledge" for a reason, although I didn't make it very clear what I meant. What I DID mean was that everyone puts their name, email, and the amount of money they're willing to donate. The money only gets donated if the target threshold is reached.

At this point I'm happy with a 4 episode miniseries or DVD movie. If they were to do that, and rely entirely on DVD sales, they'd only get a few dollars in actual profit per DVD, which means literally 12 million people need to buy one for it to turn a profit. If people donated $20 each, the number of drops down to 600,000 people. Which is still unfeasible, BUT I don't think it's necessary for us to pay for the entire budget, merely for enough of a chunk of it to demonstrate seriousness. If someone had attempted this right after the season finale when the most people were excited, I think a reachable target number of fans would have been about 20,000 people. Assume a medium donation of $20 (I spent $80 on the DVD pre-order and iTunes Season, I suspect $20 is reasonable), then we could have gotten a total of $400,000. And seriously, which do you think is more likely to impress WB - A truck driving around or a check for 400,000 dollars? The check represents not only 20,000 devoted fans but loads more people who are likely to be willing to buy the DVD or watch it on Hulu.

Unfortunately I honestly think it's too late even for that. A lot of fans (like me) have already felt like we've put in a crazy amount of effort that amounted to nothing. But if I were to continue the fight, in would only be in a battle I honestly thought had a shot of accomplishing something.
