I'm not saying that training him in weapons isn't a good idea, and I'm not saying that him learning Nerdyness isn't a good idea.
But leadership is a CHA stat (Dunno if you play D&D). Charisma is based upon your ability to interact with normal human beings and get them to like you without actively *trying* to get them to like you, and you can only hone social skills by being social. At least in season 1, he was in school and learning how to not be a freaky militant shut-in, but it takes more than guns and tactics to lead an army, it takes either VERY strict discipline or the love of the men and women serving beneath you, and he needs to learn to be social.
