Why do I always feel an obligation to seed after downloading? People tell me I'm a sucker. They tell me I should bail the second I get my file and leave the seeding to people with T1/T3 connections. But I feel guilty doing that. Like right now, I'm seeding to just four people and I've got my upload speed maxed out. If I quit, their download time will go up and in my head I'll see their happy faces turn to sad faces.

Or maybe they're actually all asleep like I should be.

I don't understand people who -don't- seed. Is it really so hard to leave your computer running? I'm still seeding Captain Star which I downloaded in early September because no one else is and I think it's worthy of being kept alive.

I always seed. I feel guilty if I don't.

Plus Mother always taught me to share with others.

I don't do that stuff, but for you I'd bake a cake with a hacksaw blade inside.

I always seed. Just seems considerate to me. After all, I was the guy on the other side of the equation not so long ago, grateful that there were people out there seeding for me.

I might not keep BT going the whole time, but it starts automatically when my computer does, so I often wind up seeding for quite a while, especially if it's something that I really like and/or think has a tragic lack of seeders and want to help share with the world. (I've got one that's been seeding the better part of a year, and has reuploaded 312 times over. Because I care. *g*)

If it's something with few seeds, I seed as much as I got and maybe a bit more. If there are VERY few seeds I seed for as long as I can.

If there are heaps of seeds I bail out.

One thing that feeds into this is Australian broadband kinda sucks. It's not only the cost - when I seed, I usually can't do other things besides general surfing (eg, streaming) at the same time.

I only seed when I’m down loading, I know it’s mean but there are cost factors in play, I can only download a certain amount each month, which by the way cost a fortune, and I usually use all that up anyway, and then I get cut down to about 60Kbs which is practically useless for anything.

Internet in Australia is still very expensive and still slow, neither of which bodes well for generosity.

How costly? Well, let’s just say it would be cheaper to buy the DVD when it comes out for the shows I watch!
