roxybisquaint: (sarah john cry)

See what happens when I have no internet for three days? I actually finish a vid. This is another shorty, clocking in at just two minutes.

Given the song choice, you might be expecting this to be humorous vid, but it's not. Without the visual of a Kim Jong Il puppet to go along with it, I think So Ronery (from the Team America soundtrack) is a touching little song and it matches John quite well. Even the engrish seems to lose its comedic impact... or maybe that's just because I listened to it 5,000 times while making this.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] cinebo for a quickie late-night beta.

Watch it on Vimeo
Download it (31mb, 640x360, Quicktime movie)

There's no Youtube link because it got a copyright block on it. I'll never understand that. I've bought several songs because of fan vids. Don't record companies get this kind of stuff is free advertising for them?

Aw. I thought it was sweet. I didn't expect it to come across as a mean vid. I do think John Connor is a douche much of the time, but that's not what this is about. This is just about how sad and lonely he is.

The original (or a serious cover) of "I'm So Lonely" would have been sweet.

The Team America version presents a character who can't even speak English properly, on top of his self-pitying narcissism. Maybe I just can't forget how "Team America" used that version of the song to ridicule the '*-hole', Kim Jong Il.

Your vid was masterfully done: well chose scenes and timing. I'm just disappointed that it leaves the viewer with a diminished perception of John Connor.

Oh teeheee John is such a whiner.

This is really really good! I could see it both funny and serious at the same time so I kept giggling and then trying to be serious the whole time. So spot on for John though :)

Hee. The boy's definitely got some inner emo! I think it lost any humor for me when I first put the teary-eyed ending on it and it made me teary-eyed. But I'm a sucker for sap :P

Aww, that was very sweet, despite what could be construed as a piss-takey song! I still think Dekker did a damn good job with John and - looking at that footage - I still wonder what the fuck wardrobe were thinking when they put them in those horrendous jogging suits in Goodbye... ;-)

The jogging suits bother you? LOL. I never gave those a second thought. I guess shorts and t-shirts would've made more sense.

When I eventually finish my angry John vid, this one will seem like rainbows and puppy dogs in comparison. That'll be a while, though. Sarah's up next — I'm 2/3 the way done with a vid about her :)

This is by far my favorite vid that you've done.

Thank you :)

I wasn't sure how people would react to this because it is a silly song in its original context, but it's also sad and sweet. I meant it more as a genuine look at John, not a mocking look. Not sure if everyone's been getting that from it, though.

People get pissed off when others mention this but the reason that the poor bastard is always so sad is because he's caught in one of the worlds most twisted (sudo) love triangles.

and I don't mean Riley being apart of that either.

seriously ... even the actors awknowledge the strange borderline unhealthy tug of war between Sarah and Cameron that the character of Cameron was sort of based for.

Between being way to comfortable with his mom (See pilot ... all of their scenes.) and being in love with a machine.

I think that the John deserves to a little bit of cry time.

John's a troubled teen with no dad, a necessarily over-protective mom, and a hot cyborg step-sister as his only sibling. Yeah, he's got issues, but aside from any subconscious Oedipal thing, I don't think he's actually in a love triangle with Sarah and Cameron. He'd been interested in Cheri. He dated Riley for well over a year. Sarah had moved him around a lot, but it's not like it was just the two of them isolated in a tent in the jungle for 15 years! There were Sequoias! And Sages!

I totally agree. He's a sad and lonely guy.

Cheri was a passing fancy ... never a second thought.

Riley was only a means to an end to try and escape the bemuda Triangle (unsucessfully might I add)

and plus Riley only enclosed the triangle even more and added fuel to the fire by being there soely to keep Cameron and John from ending up being closer ... also watch Bros. Nablus and tell me that wasn't a twisted lovers quarel between John and Sarah!

the hippies where passing names ... I know a hippy guy named sage on campus.

Sage: Dude ... can you spare any change.

Me: Sorry buddy, I lack the coinage.

Sage: (Looks at me with a serious face) No man I mean ... can you spare any ... change. *poyiant on the word change*

Me: *blinks, then walks away without a word.*

Random names mean nothing!

Ah! and even if John somehow falls in love with Alison then she'll still look like Cameron!

Trifecta continues!!

I challange you right here to point out a romantic relationship in John Connor's life that doesn't directly come back to Sarah/John/Cameron ...

and that's why John is so lonely because he will never escape the 33 going on 17 Sarah Connor and the relentless attachment of Cameron!

So cry it up Connor, because Frued harolded your coming, sir!

I wasn't suggesting John had dated any Sequoias or Sages or even Cheri. I was just using them to point out he's had contact with girls — that it's not just been him and his mom tucked away somewhere with poor John never having seem any female but his mom.

Riley may have been a form of escapism for John, but that doesn't make it any less of a relationship. Teens date people all the time that they know their parents won't approve of and that disapproval is sometimes why they do it. But I do think John liked Riley - cared about her, regardless of how it started. He stayed with her for over a year. He shared personal information with her. He made out with her. That's a relationship. If she hadn't turned out to be future girl pawn in Jesse's plot, it would've been pretty normal. And there's nothing abnormal about a guy having his first girlfriend around age 16 either.

John is so lonely because he will never escape the 33 going on 17 Sarah Connor and the relentless attachment of Cameron!

I really don't understand this viewpoint. Why don't you think John will ever escape Sarah? And why even use the word "escape"?

He's a teenager and she's his mother. Even if there weren't killer robots looking for John half the time, Sarah would still be caring for him, looking after him, protecting him, etc. That's what a parent does. But he'll grow up into adulthood and gradually take on the responsibilities of caring for himself just like every other kid does.

His attachment to Cameron is a different situation and I see that more as him giving up on people. People die. People betray. He figures it's all because of him, so what's the point in even trying to be with them? So he turns to Cameron for companionship — a machine. That's my take on his side of the John/Cam relationship.

I like the Money Pit ...

...

No, most of what I wrote was me having fun ... with the fact that no matter how you try to justify it, John and Sarah Connor are weird.

but to adress your points ...

this discussion is simply solved through what Ellison said to Weaver (BTW the only thing that the idiot ever got right.)

"He'll never leave his mother's side and the machine will never leave his."

I think in the scheme of things the triumvrate of the show cannot live without the other.

Sarah's life has no meaning without John and John can't functon properly without Sarah (See ass!John in season two) John will never send Cameron away, and Cameron will never leave John which means that she'll forever live with Sarah.

the point is that John and Sarah are mortially codependent on eachother.

and I think that the character wants to get away from that when he killed Sark ...

as for your Jameron opinion I see where that comes from, but I think Friedman debunked that with BTR when he jumps over time to rescue her.

and though Zach and Ash tried to sell that point in TITD it didn't pan out because John reached for Sarah, but still ended up going after Cameron, which wasn't about giving up on humanity ...

So in closing I will warn you that when it comes to Fandom posts I rarely am serious about a show.

So my Jarah shipping is mostly a running gag with my TSCC budies and not ment to be taken to seriously (Most of the time)

Sorry about that. I'm aware of your on-going John/Sarah gag, but I thought this time you were actually making a semi-serious statement about John. Didn't meant to harsh your fun :P
